Cina, derived from the plant Artemisia maritima (Levant wormseed), is primarily known as the foremost homeopathic remedy for intestinal worm infestations, particularly pinworms and roundworms in children. However, its therapeutic range extends beyond parasitic infections to address various conditions characterized by irritability, restlessness, and nervous symptoms. The remedy has a profound effect on the nervous system and is particularly suited to children who are cross, irritable, and impossible to please – similar to Chamomilla but with different triggers and characteristics. Cina children often grind their teeth during sleep, pick at their nose constantly, have dark circles under their eyes, and display a ravenous appetite that is never satisfied. They may be restless sleepers, waking frequently and showing fear or screaming. The remedy addresses not only worm-related symptoms but also certain types of epilepsy, chorea, and convulsive disorders in children with the characteristic irritability. Cina is valuable for treating whooping cough, spasmodic coughs that end in gagging or vomiting, and respiratory complaints with irritability. The child who needs Cina typically rejects affection, dislikes being touched or looked at, and may strike at those trying to help.
