Crotalus Horridus, prepared from the venom of the rattlesnake, is a powerful homeopathic remedy with primary action on the blood and circulation, addressing serious conditions characterized by hemorrhage, septic states, and degenerative blood diseases. The remedy is particularly indicated for bleeding tendencies with dark, thin, non-clotting blood that oozes from various orifices. Crotalus affects blood composition, causing red blood cell destruction (hemolysis), impaired clotting, and tendency toward septicemia and blood poisoning. The remedy addresses severe conditions including hemorrhagic fevers, septicemia, malignant conditions with bleeding, and certain snake bite presentations. Characteristic symptoms include bleeding from any orifice (nose, gums, bowels, uterus) with dark, fluid blood; jaundice with liver involvement and dark urine; extreme prostration and weakness; cold, clammy skin with bluish discoloration; delirium, confusion, or altered consciousness; and right-sided symptoms particularly prominent. Mental symptoms include confusion, difficulty articulating thoughts, fear, delirium, and in severe cases, unconsciousness. The patient is typically worse on the right side, worse in the morning, and extremely sensitive to any exertion.
